Your phone knows the danger zones
Riga's railway crossings, tram crossings and stops, pedestrian crossings and selected dangerous junctions are loaded on your phone. Your location is checked against them on the device; your coordinates are not sent to our servers.
On foot or by bike only
Walking or cycling, CrossAware is on. At car speed, alerts stay off.
Volume drops, you hear a warning
About 15 metres before a danger zone, media volume drops and a short voice warns you. Once you are clear, volume goes back to where it was.

Speed detection turns alerts off when you move at car speed, so they don't fire while you drive.
Works in the Background
CrossAware collects location data in the background, even when the app is closed or the screen is off, to warn you near danger zones; while safety tracking is on, Android shows a persistent notification. Zone monitoring uses Android's built-in geofencing. It keeps working with the app closed and after a phone restart.
Spoken warning
A short spoken warning and a notification. You hear "Uzmanību!" if your phone is set to Latvian and has a Latvian voice installed, otherwise "Be aware!" in English. No need to look at the screen.
Not a family locator.
A complement to one.
Looking for a Life360, Findmykids, Qustodio or Family Link alternative? CrossAware isn't one. Family-locator apps show where someone is. CrossAware acts at the crossing: it turns media down and gives a short voice alert so you hear what's coming. Use it on its own or alongside a family-locator app.

What is a personal safety app?
A personal safety app is software that helps protect you during everyday activities like walking, cycling, or commuting. CrossAware is a personal safety app that works automatically in the background, lowering your media volume near danger zones so you can hear approaching traffic and trains.
What's a good Life360 alternative?
If you're looking to replace Life360's family location sharing, CrossAware isn't that. CrossAware does something different: it automatically lowers your media volume and gives a short voice alert as you approach a danger zone, so you can hear trains and traffic. You can use it on its own or alongside Life360 or a similar app.
What is the best GPS tracker for kids?
GPS trackers and family-locator apps are designed to show where a child is. CrossAware adds a different layer: it automatically lowers media volume and gives a voice alert near danger zones, so a child can hear what's coming. Parents can use it alongside a GPS tracker.
Is there a Findmykids (Pingo) alternative?
If you already use Findmykids (Pingo) to see your child's location, CrossAware isn't a replacement — it's a different kind of tool. Findmykids is designed to show where your child is on the map; CrossAware automatically lowers their media volume and gives a voice alert as they approach a danger zone, so they can hear a train or car coming. The two can be used side by side.
Does CrossAware pause my music?
No. It lowers media volume to about a fifth near a danger zone and plays a short spoken warning, so you still hear what is around you. Volume comes back when you are clear.
Is CrossAware available on iPhone?
Not yet. CrossAware is in Android beta with testers in Riga. An iPhone version is planned.
Does CrossAware store my location?
We don't store your coordinates or your route. Your location is checked against danger zones on your phone; your coordinates are not sent to our servers. When you enter or leave a danger zone, we save the zone and the time to your account for 90 days, then delete them. You can export or delete this history in the app.
Is there a version for micromobility fleets?
Yes, as a separate product. Pause & Pass is made by the same company, SIA "DAGAR", for scooter- and bike-share operators. It uses the same public danger-zone map as CrossAware, built from OpenStreetMap; the map holds places only, with no personal data. Your CrossAware account, location and zone-event history are not used for Pause & Pass and are not shared with any operator. CrossAware remains an app for pedestrians and cyclists, free during the Android beta.
